802.11n: Enabling Pervasive Mobility
Products supporting 802.11n, the latest wireless networking standard, can help IT organizations increase their bandwidth significantly, improve coverage, and reduce interference across their networks. In addition to helping extend the value of existing mobile applications, 802.11n WLANs provide the reliability required for new advanced mobility applications, such as video or Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN), that improve productivity and the customer experience.
Despite the many benefits of 802.11n networks, however, organizations still face several challenges when deploying effective enterprise-grade wireless networks, including maximizing security across the converged wired-wireless network edge. In particular, WLANs present new network security challenges and intrusion possibilities that organizations must address in order to ensure the integrity of their converged access networks.
End-to-End WLAN Security: A Business Imperative
The pervasive nature of WLANs allows hackers to easily spoof wireless networks, leading users to believe that they are connected to and transmitting data on a secure network. Because WLAN signals can propagate through walls, these wireless phishing attacks can be launched from beyond the secure premises of an organization, increasing the challenges of rogue detection and prevention.
In addition, stringent regulatory requirements—such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard—are increasing the pressure on IT organizations. As a result, these organizations must provide greater assurances that their underlying network and communications systems, including wireless networking, are fully compliant and protected.
Securing the wireless network presents a critical challenge for many organizations. Although the latest wireless security standards address the need for robust, secure encryption and authentication, organizations still need an effective way to secure and control the entire corporate wired-wireless edge networking environment.
Brocade Mobility Solutions: Enterprise-Grade WLANs with Advanced Security
The innovative Brocade Mobility 802.11n WLAN solution provides the scalability, availability, and security features needed to deliver enterprise-level data mobility. In addition, it offers a robust backbone that enables end-to-end voice and video across a wide range of environments, helping boost productivity, increase employee satisfaction, and improve collaboration.
The Brocade Mobility family of solutions features the industry-leading AirDefense wireless Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), which protects both wired and wireless networks against threats and unauthorized devices while providing performance monitoring and troubleshooting. This is essential for meeting compliance regulations, such as HIPAA, SOX, and PCI, and ensuring that unauthorized personnel do not gain access to customer records and other business-critical data. Brocade Mobility security features also help ensure that visitors leverage the same enterprise WLAN infrastructure for high-speed wireless Internet access.
As a trusted technology partner, Brocade provides the industry's broadest wired and wireless portfolio and a proven history of delivering business-critical IP networking connectivity. Brocade Mobility solutions enable organizations to easily and cost-effectively deliver high-speed wireless access enterprise-wide, while meeting the demand for reliable, secure, end-to-end coverage and manageability.
