Download the Brocade File Insight Utility

Brocade File Insight is a free Windows-based reporting utility that provides a quick and easy way to understand your SMB/CIFS network file environments. It scans both Windows file servers and non-Windows NAS devices, generating valuable reports on file data quantity, age, size, types, and other file metadata statistics.

The File Insight Console is an intuitive user interface that you can install and begin using in just a few clicks. It enables you to create and run File Insight scans and generate reports. A File Insight scan collects metadata about the files stored on the targeted network shares, and creates numerous output files including .PDF format for convenient viewing.

File Insight is used by Windows and Storage administrators responsible for file storage management. File Insight provides the information needed to successfully undertake load balancing, consolidation, migration, tiering, archiving and similar file projects.

Step 1Ensure you have these minimum system requirements:
2 GHz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor
2 GB RAM, 100 MB available disk space
Microsoft 32-bit Windows Server 2003, XP Professional, or newer
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
Step 2Download File Insight
This free utility is a Windows-based reporting tool for administrators in charge of managing SMB/CIFS file shares who need a quick and simple way to get an overview of the files in their environment

Step 3Unzip the package and run FileInsightSetup.exe.
Install on any Windows-based PC that has TCP/IP connectivity to the file shares that you want to scan. First extract the .ZIP download file onto the local system. Install the utility and run using an account with read access to the directories and files that you want to scan. After the scan, the utility will produce three output files for report generation: .PDF file, .CSV file, and a .ZIP file.
Step 4Generate a report
Generate your report in one of three ways:
1) Click and open the .PDF file.
2) Use the File Insight template, a customized Microsoft Excel workbook available for download, to quickly generate a Summary report from the .CSV output file.
3) Email or upload the .ZIP output file to Brocade for prompt generation of a Detailed report.
Step 5Download reports (if needed):
If you chose Option 3 in Step 4, you will receive notification when your Detailed report is ready for download from your secured Brocade Connect account. If you do not have a Brocade Connect account, Brocade File Insight will automatically register you for access. If you are already a member of Brocade Connect, log on to Brocade Connect to check your reports.
