File Insight Utility

Brocade File Insight is a free Windows-based reporting utility that provides a fast and easy way to understand SMB/CIFS file share environments. It collects file metadata and produces meaningful reports on file age, size, types, and other metadata statistics. File Insight is used by Windows and Storage administrators responsible for file storage management. File Insight provides the information needed to successfully undertake load balancing, consolidation, migration, tiering, archiving and similar file projects.

Many organizations are discovering they are storing much more old data than they ever imagined. It’s not unusual to find file shares where as much as 80% of files have not been modified in two or more years. Making a discovery like this – and taking action with an effective storage management solution – can greatly reduce required storage hardware, administrative labor and related energy expense.

File Insight provides reports with the following information:

  • The number of files in an environment
  • File age and file size
  • How many files have not been accessed in two or more years
  • The most common file types by aggregate file count and file size
  • Top individual files in terms of size and age characteristics

Brocade File Insight Value Assessment

A File Insight Value Assessment extends the data provided by the File Insight utility and adds the dimension of storage cost and solution savings. During an assessment, trained File Management experts help interpret the scan results and consult on related business and operational information. The assessment provides deeper analysis in the areas of operational risk, SLA gaps, storage and operational costs as well as economic impact.
