Brocade 1010 and 1020 CNAs

The Brocade 1010 (single port) and Brocade 1020 (dual port) Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) integrate 10 Gbps Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) functionality with Fibre Channel technology—enabling transport over a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) connection through the new Data Center Bridging (DCB) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) protocols, providing best-in-class LAN connectivity and I/O consolidation to help reduce cost and complexity in next-generation data center environments.

Today's IT professionals face the difficult challenge of reducing data center cost and complexity while satisfying numerous Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and performance requirements. As a result, organizations are seeking ways to improve server and storage utilization, reduce ongoing operational costs, and increase their flexibility and responsiveness.

IMPROVED TCO THROUGH I/O CONSOLIDATION
DCB is a new set of industry standards that enhances Ethernet protocol to enable low-latency, lossless, and deterministic network infrastructure for storage and other highly demanding traffic types. Brocade CNAs support all of these standards, including Priority-based Flow Control (PFC), Enhanced Transmission Selection (ETS), Congestion Notification (CN), and Data Center Bridging Exchange (DCBX).

FCoE encapsulates and transmits Fibre Channel frames over this enhanced Ethernet infrastructure while preserving the Fibre Channel constructs and management paradigm for backward compatibility and investment protection.

By leveraging these technologies, Brocade CNAs enable organizations to consolidate multiple 1 GbE NICs and Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) into a single adapter. Combined with the top-of-rack Brocade 8000 Switch, the FCOE10-24 Blade for the Brocade DCX® Backbone family, and Brocade Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM®), Brocade CNAs provide a powerful 10 Gbps solution that helps consolidate both TCP/IP and storage (iSCSI/FC) traffic over a single link. This helps significantly reduce server deployment costs, as well as power and cooling requirements, delivering best-in-class LAN and SAN connectivity while reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Abstract:

In today’s enterprise-class data centers, administrators do not have the luxury of time. Keeping track of driver and firmware versions creates a management nightmare. Brocade believes that this complexity is an unnecessary burden on administrators, which is why we developed a unified driver approach in which firmware is embedded into the driver package.
