Standards Leadership

At Brocade, we work with industry-leading organizations to facilitate the development of standards, technologies, products and services that focus on the simplification of data center infrastructure management and the implementation and management of data networking environments. We have a long history of being a major contributor to the evolution of industry standards ranging from Fibre Channel communication technology to storage network interoperability to storage and storage network management. As we continue to expand our presence in the Ethernet space, our participation in associated standards groups continues to grow as well.

INCITS T11 Technical Committee

The INCITS T11 Technical Committee is the governing body for all Fibre Channel related standards. Brocade assumes a leadership role in the T11 committee and is an active participant and contributor to the technical work in T11.

INCITS T11 Leadership Positions

  • Steven Wilson: Chairman of the INCITS T11 Technical Committee
  • Dave Peterson: International Representative of the INCITS T11 Technical Committee

Brocade is a major contributor to the technical work within T11. Brocade has authored or co-authored many Fibre Channel Standards such as FC-BB-5 (FCoE), FC-SW-5, FC-GS-6, and FC-IFR. In addition, Brocade chairs or has chaired many technical work groups within T11.

Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA)

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) is a mutual benefit non-profit international organization of manufacturers, system integrators, developers, vendors, industry professionals and end users. The FCIA is committed to delivering a broad base of Fibre Channel infrastructure technology to support a wide array of applications within the mass storage and IT-based arenas.

  • Steven Wilson is a Board member of the FCIA.

In addition to its governance role, Brocade also participates in the marketing and interoperability efforts promoted and sponsored by the FCIA.

Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA)

SNIA is a not-for-profit organization committed to delivering standards, education, and services to advance open storage networking solutions into the marketplace.

  • Steven Wilson: SNIA Technical Council member
  • John Crandall is the Brocade representative on the SMI Technical Work Group and SNIA Liaison to the DMTF.

Brocade also participates in various technical work groups (TWGs) and marketing activities in the SNIA. Brocade contributes to the development of Fibre Channel Management, Green Storage, and SMI-S.

Data Management Task Force (DMTF)

The DMTF, developer of the CIM standard, is the industry organization leading the development, adoption, and interoperability of management standards for enterprise and Internet environments.

  • John Crandall is vice-chair of the DMTF Technical Council and the Vice-Chair of the DMTF Schema Subcommittee.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Brocade is a major contributor to the IEEE Standards. In 802.1 Brocade is a major contributor and has co-authored many of the Data Center Bridging proposals. In 802.3 Brocade has co-authored a number of proposals for the 40GE and 100GE task force.

Internet Engineering Task force (IETF)

Brocade is a major contributor to the IETF standards and has co-authored many documents such as FC Over IP and MIB definitions. Most recently Brocade is participating in the TRILL working group and is co-author of the TRILL RBridge base protocol specification.

Other Industry Activities

Brocade also contributes to many other standards and industry bodies including T10 (SCSI, SAS), the Ethernet Alliance (EA), the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), and the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS).
