Creating a dynamic infrastructure one network at a time.

To create smarter services, companies need smarter systems capable of harnessing the potiential of the world's devices, assets, and networks. It starts with a dynamic infrastructure that increases operational efficiency, unifies business and IT assets, helps consolidate network resources through virtualization, provides an integrated security strategy, and reduces energy consumption.

IBM y-series Ethernet switches

IBM y-series Ethernet switches
  • Convergence ready—power next-generation devices through a single cable with high-bandwidth data delivery
  • Highly flexible—pay-as-you-grow expansion utilizing IronStack technology delivers a 384-port logical switch
  • Proven reliability—tested for interoperability with IBM systems technology
  • Simplified deployment—increase operational efficiency with industry-standard CLI and automated management tools
  • Fully featured—includes layer 3 routing functionality with no additional licensing required
  • Superior scalability—supports higher numbers of routes, addresses and VLANs compared to products in class

The IBM y-series Ethernet switches are a high-performance, feature-rich, and easy-to-manage 1 GbE solution for network device access. Available in 24- and 48-port models in a compact 1 RU form-factor, these switches are designed to provide all-purpose network connectivity with Full Layer 2 and Enterprise Layer 3 features and the capability to unify the access layer utilizing IronStack technology, simplifying management and device deployment.

These switches are available in two model families — purpose-built Data Center models featuring rack-friendly airflow and double the uplink bandwidth (4x10 Gbps, optional module) of standard 1 GbE switches, eliminating network bottlenecks in heavily virtualized environments, and Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) models to support the next generation of access devices such as 802.11n Access Points, tilt/pan surveillance cameras, and video teleconferencing systems in Enterprise Campus environments.

Data Center models

  • 24- or 48- 10/100/1000 MbE (RJ45) ports with an open slot for an optional 4-port 10 GbE (SFP+) interface module or 4-port 100/1000 MbE (SFP, combo ports) interface module
  • Rack-friendly airflow – non-port (back) to port (front) side airflow eliminates the need for complicated air baffles

PoE+ models

  • 24- or 48- 10/100/1000 MbE (RJ45) ports supporting PoE+ and an open slot for an optional 2-port 10 GbE (XFP) interface module
  • Two 16/10 Gbps CX4 ports supporting high-speed stacking and flexibility to use as standard Ethernet uplinks
  • PoE+ delivers up to 30 watts of power to end devices and LLDP-MED capabilities for intelligent power configuration

Common features

  • Full Layer 2 and Enterprise Layer 3 features include IPv4 unicast (RIP, OSPF) and multicast (PIM) for flexible deployments
  • Unify up to eight switches into a single logical chassis of 384 ports utilizing IronStack technology, resulting in IP management and device configuration (requires 10 GbE module on Data Center models)
  • Wire-speed, non-oversubscribed architecture enables high-speed network access to servers, iSCSI and NAS storage arrays, and other network devices
  • High availability with redundant, load-sharing, hot-swappable, and auto-sensing/switch power supplies and resilient quad-fan fan tray
  • Embedded per-port sFlow capabilities supports granular, hardware-based traffic monitoring
