An internship at Brocade provides hands on experience on the latest technologies. As a Software Quality Assurance Engineer, I learned how to write the test cases and handled the running of Build Verification Tests (known as BVT s). Initially I started off by writing Perl and Batch scripts for the BVTs and gradually learned C#. I wrote unit test cases in C# and later integrated them into the build system with the help of Perl and Batch.

The quality of work assignments was really good. The projects were very interesting and challenging. I thought they helped to increase the productivity for the company and helped us to improve ourselves as an individual and inculcated a lot of self confidence. The best part about the work assignments was that we were allowed to work on live machines and in the production environment. Brocade also utilizes one of the latest technologies in the market. They have excellent software needed to develop the product and use good testing tools for testing it.

The work environment was fantastic with good support from our senior members who always encouraged us to work hard. We shared an informal relationship with all the employees and it made us feel like we were a part of the FAN Group and just not interns. The managers were always available and the most impressive thing about our managers was that they themselves were so dynamic that it set an example for all the other employees. Brocade's culture is reflected in the attitude and the high aspirations of the people who work within the organization. It reflects their passion for integrity and excellence.

My name is Rachel Long and I am an English major at California Polytechnic University. I was searching for an internship that would strengthen my writing skills as well as give me valuable experience in the field of technical writing. When I began working in the Technical Communication department at Brocade, I was immediately given hands-on work that swiftly gave me introduced me to duties of tech writing and I was able to work with programs that are frequently used by technical writers. When I returned to college after the summer, I was very pleased with my new technical writing skills and the bona fide work experience under my belt.

Brocade Communications is my first experience working for a US based company. For the past 4 months, I learned various things ranging from technical knowledge to personal development skills. My projects allowed me to utilize programming languages such as C#, PERL, and XML.

From day one, Brocade allowed me to feel comfortable with my work environment. My Senior Director and Manager were always available to answer my questions. Also, they never disregarded any of my questions or my requests. Working with Brocade Communications has been an amazing experience, it has helped me in improving not only my technical skills but it has also helped me in my personal development.

The value-added internship exposed me to Brocade’s Storage Area Networking products, HR administrative tasks and projects. I made valuable contributions in the different groups within HR, and enjoyed every minute! In addition, my participation in meetings sharpened my business acumen. They were informative to witness how communicating ideas, planning activities, and producing outcomes can affect the department and the entire company. My work experience at Brocade is definitely invaluable to my career path.

The best part about Brocade is the friendly and cooperative culture. My manager and co-workers were very helpful in answering questions and providing feedback to my projects. They were available to assist me, and made me feel welcomed into the department. In addition, Brocade does an excellent job rewarding their employees for their hard work. I had a lot of fun attending a Brocade Bash and bowling for an off-site meeting!

I highly recommend an internship at Brocade! Students will have hands-on experiences, and learn important skills that are not taught within the classroom.
