Strengthen Performance for Your Most Demanding Networks

With non-stop growth in digital data and network traffic—as well as increased use of virtualization—today’s data center and service provider networks require the highest levels of bandwidth capacity and scalability to keep applications flowing efficiently. In fact, wire-speed performance in Carrier Ethernet routing and data center switching has become necessary to avoid oversubscribed components that create network bottlenecks and slow down application, storage, and service delivery.

To meet this challenge, Brocade  has introduced new performance-enhancing line cards and port blades for two of its flagship platforms:

  • The Brocade NetIron MLX Series of MPLS-enabled routers
  • The Brocade DCX Backbone family of Fibre Channel SAN solutions

With wire-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) routing for the NetIron MLX Series and 8 Gbps Fibre Channel switching for the Brocade DCX Backbone, the new capabilities strengthen the core and aggregation layers in Carrier Ethernet and data center networks. As a result, they improve scalability and application performance while reducing costs and architectural complexity.

Strengthening Carrier Ethernet and Data Center Networks
Brocade NetIron MLX Series routers are ideal for a wide range of Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), Internet edge/aggregation routing, virtualized data center, large enterprise core, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. Two new line cards (one for service provider networks and one for data centers) double the non-blocking 10 GbE density of these routers from 128 to 256 ports in a single chassis.

By providing denser wire-speed platforms, Brocade helps service providers stay ahead of data growth while maintaining service levels in a cost-effective manner. The new NetIron MLX 8×10 GbE-M module for service provider environments delivers:

  • Full IPv4/IPv6 functionality
  • Advanced capabilities such as MPLS, VPLS, and 512,000 FIB capacity
  • Reduced power/cooling requirements (by as much as 45 percent over existing solutions)
  • Greater scalability and Layer 2/3 services for aggregation and transit networks

With per-host traffic load increasing due to server virtualization and rich media content, network capacity has become crucial for scaling services in large data centers, enterprise cores, and HPC environments. To address this need, Brocade offers the new NetIron MLX 8×10 GbE-D module to provide data centers with:

  • IPv4/IPv6 functionality
  • Up to 256,000 FIB capacity for IPv4 routes
  • Greater scalability for advanced non-MPLS applications

Higher Performance for Storage Networks
As more of the data center becomes virtualized, today’s networks must be able to handle the additional workload. To meet that challenge, Brocade is delivering unmatched levels of core switching performance and scalability with new 64-port 8 Gbps Fibre Channel port blades for the Brocade DCX Backbone.

The port blades increase wire-speed density from 384 to an industry-leading 512 ports. Leveraging this new technology, IT organizations can build faster and more robust core networking solutions for their next-generation data center SANs. This is especially critical since consolidation has led to fewer but larger data centers that now require greater scalability, improved application service levels, and reduced architectural complexity.
